AMBULANCE SERVICE
The Clinton Township Fire Company began providing emergency and routine ambulance transport services on July 28, 2002. The service was started in response to requests by residents within Clinton Township who felt that we should be providing this service and not relying on outside agencies.
A 2002 Ford/Horton Ambulance was purchased from Spitler Vehicle Specialties in Montoursville, PA. It was equipped with all of the necessary medical equipment as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The vehicle and the ambulance service were inspected by representatives from the Lycoming, Tioga, & Sullivan Counties Regional EMS Council and a license to operate the service was issued by the Dept. of Health to the Fire Company.
We felt that the service we were going to provide needed to exceed what was previously provided. It was determined that we would provide for professional staffing of our ambulance during the weekdays from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm and the remaining times the ambulance would be staffed by our volunteers. This decision has proven to be a smart one. It has ensured that our ambulance responds immediately during the daytime hours when the majority of our volunteers are working. This allows our volunteers to remain at work and not jeopardize their employment by leaving to respond to emergencies unless absolutely necessary for incidents such as vehicle crashes or fires.
Our ambulance is staffed at all times with a minimum of two Emergency Medical Technicians. This far exceeds the minimum requirement for an ambulance crew as per the Pa. Department of Health Ambulance Licensure requirements. Every one of our EMTs (currently there are nineteen in the Fire Co.) are certified by the Department of Health and are trained for the use of Automatic Defibrillators, CPR, Vehicle Rescue, Hazardous Material Response, and in most cases, they are also cross trained as firefighters.
